It was during her studies for a BA in 3D Design at Unitec, Auckland that Trudie first discovered porcelain, drawn to its creamy texture but most of all, its translucency.
To enable more light to move under and through the porcelain she began to cast glass bases on which to stand her pieces. From that time Trudie has almost exclusively worked these two materials together, although recently she has begun to experiment combining porcelain with beautiful forms of turned wood.
There is a strong architectural presence in her work, a play between the positive and negative spaces clearly seen through her well defined forms.
Trudie's work is in private and public national and international collections, including the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa
