Michael Tannock graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Otago Polytechnic School of Fine Arts, majoring in ceramics in 1999, and has a BA (English) from Otago University.
Michael’s sculptural works feature distinctive wall mounted forms reminiscent of a boat shape. A master of throwing, he has also produced a series of beautifully thrown large platters. The medium is terracotta clay, with black and white slip decoration. They are suspended on the wall and are vehicles for imagery and words taken from maps and navigation charts.
He is interested in the science of glaze and clay technology and has extended his knowledge by taking geology papers at university.
He is currently the resident potter at the Potters Cottage, Glenfalloch Gardens, Dunedin, where he works full time potting and making clay sculpture.
