An exhibition of new drawings and ceramics from John Roy
"I like to use the human figure in my work as it provides an easy point of reference for the viewer, allowing them to draw upon their own personal experiences in interpreting the work. As it is easier to relate to something you are already familiar with. I us this as a starting point to introduce thoughts on the human condition and trying to covey a thought or feeling, pushing the material beyond the pretty decorative and functional notions traditionally associated with the material used.
I like to use many reference points in my work allowing for multiple interpretations depending on the different viewers personal experiences and individual reading of the subject of the sculpture.
In effect telling one’s own story."
