David Holmes

David Holmes has been making exquisitely carved jewellery and objects of adornment since graduating from Otago Polytechnic in 1994 with an Advanced Diploma in Craft Design.  He works mainly with natural materials - wood, shell and bone, creating finely detailed works which speak of their origins - the South Pacific.  He has made some significant larger wooden pieces which are art works in themselves, being framed for display rather than for wearing, and which have and will continue to delight collectors and connoisseurs of fine carving.

David worked for a spell in the UK, where he made works from local northern hemisphere timbers, some combined with gold leaf and paints.

He has exhibited extensively throughout New Zealand and Australia.  In 1995 he received an Arts Council grant for new artists.
