Becky Bliss - Found

05 - 19 April 2016

Badges have been around since the Middle Ages as identifiers of groups of people and have varied from very expensive works of jewellery to the more familiar campaign and commemorative pieces made of tin.

This new body of work follows on from a recent project of Bliss’s. “Finding Found” was an interactive exhibition developed for Radiant Pavilion on Crossley Street in Melbourne, 2015, where members of the public were invited to find and keep a badge from the installation of work placed on the footpath around a group of rubbish bins.

The works in this exhibition further develop Bliss’s exploration of surface using traditional and found materials. They explore the contemporary use of the badge as a wearable art form, increasing its value and asking the question: what are these badges identifiers of?
