Andy Kingston

While studying at Northland Polytechnic Andy met Richard Parker and travelled with him to the 2003 World Ceramics Exposition in Ichon, Korea. Thus began his career as a potter.

Andy works the single format of a small earthenware dish, often exhibited in groups.  These simple small dishes are decorated with images and words, often humorous and entertaining, making wry comments on  day to day commonplace events and ideas.

As Andy says, “Pottery is a common and familiar object we use every day, often with little regard. It provides a good standpoint from which to celebrate naivety and amateurism - traits which appeal to me as they have a certain honesty and gentle humour.”
